Chuckle [Mar. 1st, 2007|06:11 pm]
While I may not be as taken by my housemate's new girlfriend as he obviously is, she did tell us a couple of great jokes at the pub last night:

What did the quadraplegic orphan get for christmas?

I damned near spat my JD all over the table.

Not as funny, but nearly, was:

What's funnier than a dead baby?

A dead baby in a clown costume.

Where's ya wheelie bin? [Jan. 31st, 2007|06:32 pm]
Some of you may have noticed my absence from LJ over the last coupla months & may have been wondering if I was dead in a proverbial ditch somewhere. Not quite. I lost my job at the end of November & seeing as most of my postings were done during work hours I've been neglecting my journal somewhat.

So the last two months have seen me looking (unsuccesfully) for a new job in my chosen field. I've also been going out a whole lot & chewing through my severance pay. It's been (to quote Pink) a 'real good time' & I've been more social over this time than I have for ages. Thankfully Chrystal has also been unemployed as has helped me pass quiet days with trips to the beach etc.

Sadly, now I must find work (in any form) & give up this relaxed lifestyle.

Melanie Griffiths Eat Your Heart Out [Dec. 5th, 2006|07:24 pm]
After leaving my job last week (I missed out on the library job), I have an interview tomorrow morning with a local production house. I'm kinda nervous, as you'd expect.

Wish me luck.

What the weekend saw [Nov. 21st, 2006|02:44 pm]
[Current Location |Between desks]
[mood |goood]

I reached a decision on my housing situation over the weekend thanks to some helpful advice & a kindly offer from C & her new flattie F. They basically warned me off moving back into the crap-hole & F offered me some free storage space in her garage. So I'll be staying at P's until I've found suitable accomodation. Hopefully I can find "Two men & a truck" to move my stuff at a cheap price coz I doubt you can rent a ute with disabled modifications.

Tried to watch 'The Descent' on Friday night but P's DVD don't play multi-region & the disc is from UK. Luckily there was an episode of 'The Brak Show' on Adult Swim (aahh the joys of pay TV) so we got our chuckle on.

C made a lovely pasta for dinner Saturday night & we went through the '1000 Movies you must see before you die' book. I was surprised by some of the entries, There was a fair amount of Horror & 'Tetsuo' was included as was 'Pink Flamingos' & 'Videodrome'. 'Delicatessen' was listed too which was the first movie C & I saw together (& one we both agree is brilliant).

I didn't get any knitting done coz I never went & got the needles I need but I did get some more work done on the crocheted toy for C's new nephew. I was having withdrawals last week when I couldn't find my hooks. I'll havta start on Xmas presents soon, thankfully I've got a coupla ideas which will work for various people.

I did some more moving yesterday, I'm still sleeping on the air-bed but I have the majority of my DVD's with me now. Picked T up from the airport last night & we went to Kelly's on King St for a couple of drinks. She was still pretty upset after the funeral.

So all up it was a pretty busy weekend. I can't wait for my life to be sorted & I can actually relax for a few days.

How was yours?

This leg was made for moving [Nov. 8th, 2006|06:21 pm]
I'm in the middle of moving house at the moment. I shifted into a new place over the weekend to discover it was pretty much uninhabitable so I'm now staying with friends who are going through a seperation.

Because I'm moving stuff before coming to work I wore my leg today (for those not in the know & not clued in by my username, I'm an amputee). It's a nice change being able to bring my coffee down from the cafe myself & generally getting around.

My boss made mention of the fact that if you didn't know you wouldn't guess & also mentioned how much more agile I am on my leg. While I do like the mobility I gain from wearing my prosthesis, I also like using crutches as it makes my disability visible. In a way I reckon it's the same as gay guys who come out & immediately adopt a lisp & start calling people Dahling, it answers peoples' questions without them having to ask. People also have a tendency to forget I'm disabled when I do wear my prosthesis even if they've known me for years.

The funniest comment today came from Gabby who asked what was different about me, then said "Oh, you're wearing a hat...& your leg".

Safety Dance [Nov. 2nd, 2006|06:21 pm]
I know road-workers wear those fluro orange/yellow vests to make them more visible to motorists but to me they just alert me to the possibility of perving on spunky construction type guys.

a WHOLE lotta love [Oct. 31st, 2006|12:47 pm]
[mood |possessed]

Just finished watching the shock-doc on 9. The exercise scenes & all that nakedness were the scariest things I saw this halloween. And I thought nothing could top the bloody paper & specks that I had to flush from the work loo this morning. I think I woulda preferred skeletons/spiders, the usual halloween stuff.

Amigurumi Teddy [Oct. 16th, 2006|01:38 pm]
[Tags|, , ]
[Current Location |Home]

Teddy started out as the body for another project but the head didn't suit the body so instead teddy's body got a teddy-head. I took him to P&C's house to get some photos in the garden & gave him to P to give his nephew.
